It installs during system setup, it associates with *.deb files and it works. Note: Both gnome commander and gdebi work as expected in Ubuntu. Again, command prompt, su, gnome-commander succeeds somehow, but it does not seem to be the right way.

It has an option "run with root priviledges" but it neitehr asks for root password nor run. (2) Talking root priviledges: I have a similar problem with gnome commander. (1) Where should I register gdebi to give it root priviledges? I would like gdebi to behave like other priviledged apps: ask for root password then run. Trying to specify "gksu gdebi" in the file properties runs only gksu (it wants the root password) but not gdebi or gdebi fails again.

If I open a command line, make "su", then go to the package directory and run "gdebi b", the package installs from the command line. If I select gdebi for the one who should service. gdebi can do it but gdebi has no root priviledges on my comp most likely. It is possible to install from a command prompt but I would like to install it by a double click on the package without fighting my way through directories and searching for params needed on the command line.
